Safety Is Everyone’s Concern! We, Ippolito Transportation, have posted tips for “Commercial Drivers – Prolonged Isolation” this past year. Today we are providing tips for isolation during December. Dealing with isolation as a truck driver in December can be especially challenging, given the holiday season and the shorter daylight hours. Here are some tips to help:
Bring the Holiday Spirit Along
- Decorate Your Truck: Add small, festive touches like string lights, a mini tree, or a holiday-themed air freshener to create a cozy atmosphere.
- Holiday Music/Podcasts: Play holiday playlists or listen to podcasts that make you feel festive and connected to the season.
- Portable Traditions: Bring along traditions like a favourite holiday mug, snacks, or even a small gift to open on the road.
Plan for Celebrations
- Celebrate Early or Late: Plan a holiday celebration with loved ones before or after December so you have something to look forward to.
- Virtual Holiday Party: Coordinate a virtual celebration with family or friends if you can’t be there in person.
Stay Entertained
- Audiobooks/Podcasts: Dive into stories or learn something new during long stretches on the road.
- Movies/Shows: Download some of your favourites to watch during downtime.
- Games: Play mobile or handheld games for quick mental breaks.
Prioritize Self-Care
- Stick to a Routine: Try to maintain a regular sleep and meal schedule, even during the busy season.
- Bring Comfort Items: Pack your favorite blanket, pillow, or anything that makes your cab feel more like home.
- Practice Gratitude: Write down or reflect on things you’re thankful for to maintain a positive mindset.
Your safety is the top priority. Ippolito Transportation provides all drivers with support and resources on a range of topics; all confidential to use as part of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Remember, seeking support is a sign of strength, and there are resources available to help you navigate through difficult times. It’s important to prioritize your well-being and reach out for support when needed.
